The story of fernthephotog
My passion derives from connecting the emotions of the human heart with my photography.
I am a third generation photographer, my grandfather did photography in Mexico alongside my dad. My father then brought the passion to the United States, doing photo & video work in our local city.
Many have asked me "Jesus, how did you get involved with photography?" and I always respond "If I knew how to sing, or play an instrument or rap, I wouldn't be a photographer!"
I love music, and it didn't matter what I would be doing, I needed to listen to music at every moment. I had come to realize that music never missed it's chance to either inspire me or get me in touch with my emotions. It's as if I could see what I would hear.
So what did I choose to do? Grabbing an entry level camera, that my dad would have stored away in the closet, I began taking photos according to what I would feel. Even if it was the crappiest photo! I would take photos for my home church at that time, the pastor, the people and the worship band. I would go outside and photograph animals, plants, buildings and people. Gradually, I would grasp the beauty of photography. I would take online classes, watch YouTube videos, join photography clubs at my high school. I took every opportunity to grow.
Once I graduated, I got a job doing labor work at construction sites, and I began to save and invest. New laptop, new camera and a new lens! That was 6 years ago, and today I can say that I have and am enjoying the journey, I continue learning, and I will keep holding unto our motto:
"Life looks beautiful through our lens, but it is experienced far greater through the lens of God the father!"
